¡Informe!
is a database reference tool providing indexing, images and full-text of popular Hispanic magazines -- not just translations. Also
included is a thesaurus and interface that are uniquely designed
for Spanish-speaking users.
Search 1:
How can one find articles on terrorism in the
U.S. after 9/11/2001?
Solution:
- Open ¡Informe! and go to the "Advanced Search" page.
- Enter "Estados Unidos"
in "Tema (te)" [Subject (su)] in the first entry box.
- Enter "terrorismo" in
"Tema (te)" in the second entry box.
- Limit search "to full text articles".
- Limit by date "after"
11 September 2001.
- Click on the "Search"
button to retrieve more than 500 articles.
Search 2:
What type of diets are recommended
for people with diabetes?
Solution:
- Open ¡Informe! and go to the "Keyword search" page.
- Enter "diabetes and dieta"
in the entry box. If using the Spanish interface, enter "diabetes y dieta".
- Limit search "to full-text
articles".
- Click on the "Search" button to retrieve 10 articles.
Search 3:
A student needed to write a report
on free trade agreements.
Solution:
- Entered ¡Informe! and went to the "Subject guide search"
page.
- Entered "tratados de libre
comercio" in the entry box and clicked on the "Search"
button.
- The preferred term "Tratados
Comerciales" appeared.
- Clicked on the "See"
button before the preferred term to retrieve more than 600 articles
viewable as a list by date or by subdivision.
Search 4:
A customer needed to locate an article
that was published in 2001 in the journal "Proceso". The
article was about Indian education but he could not remember the
author or the title.
Solution:
- Entered ¡Informe! and went to the "Advanced search" page.
- Selected "Revista (re)"
[journal name] and entered "Proceso" in the first entry
box.
- Selected "Pal. Clave (pc)"
[keyword] and entered "educacion indigena" in the second
entry box.
- Limited by date "on"
2001.
- Clicked on the "Search"
button and retrieved the article being sought by the customer.
Search 5:
How can full-text articles about
the Panama Canal be found in ¡Informe!?
- Open ¡Informe! and go to the "Subject guide" search page.
- Enter "Canal de Panama"
in the entry box.
- Limit search to full-text articles.
- Click on the "Search"
button and then on the "View" button to retrieve more than
60 articles.
