Overview
Practical Manual of GERD will provide gastroenterologists and resident/fellows in practice with a comprehensive clinical and practical management guide to one of the most prevalent conditions in medicine and one that they will be encountering daily, gastroesophageal reflux disease and related acid-reflux conditions.\xa0 It will be far easier to digest, more comprehensive and far more practically accessible than traditional specialist textbook sections on GERD, which are used predominantly as reference works.\xa0 The emphasis throughout is on the clinical management of GERD, and it will contain a variety of pedagogic features such as case histories, potential pitfall boxes, key points, management algorithms, and useful weblinks in each chapter.The book comprises two sections: section one presents an overview of GERD, including pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment/management of GERD.\xa0 The second section discusses the treatment of specific clinical presentations (which is what the clinician will initially be presented with in a patient). This dual approach of evaluating both the reasons for and general management of GERD, and also by tackling each clinical presentation separately, will ensure that the book is user-friendly and clinically relevant to all GI health professionals - both specialist and in training - who are at the coalface of patient care.
