Overview
UXL Civics introduces students to the concept of global civics. As technology and social media have ushered in a truly global community, it is more important than ever that American's youth not only understand fundamental concepts that shape democracy and civic life, but hold a true awareness of contemporary global civic issues. The three-volume set provides students with the information they need to understand the value of power---who achieves it and how---and how that power impacts justice, liberty, equality, opportunity, and the interdependence of people not only in the United States, but across the world. UXL Civics directly supports middle school civics, economics, and history curricula and is arranged thematically in fifteen chapters across three volumes: Volume 1: American Government; Volume 2: Rights, Liberties, and Obligations; and Volume 3: Foreign Policy and Global.
The U UXL Civics Teacher's Guide accompanies the three-volume set and provides support for educators using UXL Civics in the classroom. The fifteen chapters in the Teacher's Guide correspond with the chapters in the main set. Each Teacher's Guide chapter offers a brief summary of the main ideas found in the corresponding chapter, includes the guided reading questions for that chapter, and supplies detailed classroom projects related to the text. The Teacher's Guide also provides a chapter-by-chapter correlation of the text to the Common Core State Standards and National Standards for Civics and Government. Each chapter concludes with a For More Information section that lists books, periodicals, and websites as resources for both educators and students.
