Overview
Li Bingheng (1830-1900) was a late-Qing official who lived through the Sino-French War, the First Sino-Japanese War, and the invasion of China by the military forces of the Eight-Nation Alliance. Li left behind Memorials to Throne by Faithful Duke Li, which provide a large number of eyewitness accounts of these three events, especially with regards to specific battles and personnel matters. Mr. Qi Qizhang reviewed and supplemented the prior edition from sources, such as memorials to the emperor marked with the Emperor's comments, original and copies of memorials of the Grand Military Council, the Korean archival records, Financial Compilation in Emperor Guangxu's Reign and other documents. The uncollected official communications and wires from the Shandong Provincial Governor's Office and the official Foreign Office, whose amount of material exceeds that of the previous edition by one third, have also been selected and included in this present edition, making it the most complete work by Li Bingheng to date.
