Overview
As a prominent member of Li Hongzhang's office, Ma Jianzhong played an important role in many historical events. This book collects Ma's writings on subjects other than linguistics and is a good reflection of Ma's position in and influence on the history of the period. To a certain degree, it also fills up the lacuna in studies on Ma Jianzhong and the Self-Strengthening Movement in the late Qing period (especially with regards to communication with foreign countries) at large.
