Overview
This book analyzes how the Communist Party of China (CPC) made use of its united front with merchants to expand its strength in the early years of the Chinese proletarian revolution. It highlights the historical fact that in the process of developing the workers movement and revolution in its formative period, the CPC actually realized the importance of establishing connections and working closely with merchants, and on the basis of forming a united social and political front with them, strove to achieve their objective of overthrowing the bourgeoisie. By thoroughly analyzing the historical events of May Thirtieth Movement, the General Guangdong-Hong Kong Strike and Boycott, and the three armed insurrections by workers of Shanghai from the "mass movement" perspective, this book aims to clearly sort out the complex and complicated relationships among the merchants, workers, students, and the CPC and the KMT in the early period of the Chinese revolution, and to shed new light and provide new and historically-informed narratives on the early revolutionary history of the CPC.
