Overview
Passenger and Immigration Lists Index (PILI) was first published in 1981. The initial set indexed 200 passenger lists, covering about 500,000 persons. Since then, forty-five supplements have been released, increasing coverage to more than 5 million names. This is still only a fraction of the 35-40 million immigrants who reached the New World between the sixteenth and mid-twentieth centuries. It is the aim of PILI to lead you to the sources that will unravel some of the mysteries surrounding this fascinating group of people, particularly as they relate to individual family histories.

- Arranged alphabetically, entries include name of immigrant, age, date and port of arrival or place of first mention in New World, Immigrant Country of Origin, immigration occupation, ship name, port of departure and date of departure.
- When the content is available, entries contain the names and ages of family members who traveled to the new world with the primary immigrant, coded to the primary immigration source, which can be consulted for further information.
- Within PILI, cross-references connect immigrant ancestors to other family members who immigrated with them to the Americas.
- The 105,000 newly-profiled persons were drawn from a wide variety of more than 350 sources of genealogical and immigration information, including passenger lists, historical publications, naturalization records, government documents, scholarly journals, ship manifests and other historical sources.
- The "Bibliography of Sources Indexed" provides complete information about each of the cited sources.
What's New
Passenger and Immigration Lists Index: 2021 Supplement (PILI) assembles 97,000 immigrant names, plus more than 8,000 family members who traveled with these immigrants to the Americas during a span of more than 350 years, between 1607 and 1972.
