Overview
This resource provides school library media specialists and teachers with information about the Middle East, identifies quality literature about the region, and provides ways to use that literature in K-12 schools. In Part I, after providing background information about the countries and peoples of the Middle East, the authors present guidelines for selecting children's and young adult literature about the region. In the chapters of Part II, the authors discuss literature related to the region in general and to the major ethnic groups of the region. Included in these chapters is a complete annotated bibliography of children's and young adult books with evaluations, reading/interest level, review sources, awards/prizes, and Accelerated Reader/Reading Counts availability. Finally, in Part III, the authors identify strategies for incorporating literature about the Middle East into libraries and classrooms with separate chapters for elementary and secondary SLMS and teachers.
