Lushun Museum is a century-old history and art museum. Established in 1917, its predecessor was the Museum of the Kwantung Governor-General Office during Dalian's occupation by Japan. The museum now houses around 60,000 artifacts, consisting mainly of cultural relics unearthed in Dalian and Xinjiang as well as other treasured Chinese and foreign objects. Among the highlights of its collection in 20 categories are paintings and calligraphy, relics unearthed in Xinjiang, and bronze wares of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties.
