Overview
Proposes that the study of religion in China should adopt the "practical logic" raised by Pierre Bourdieu as methodological standards in a sociological examination of China's religious beliefs. Special attention is paid to the relationship between belief and religion and various social practices in China's society. Between belief and religion, there is a process of transition from belief to religion based on the logic of the expression of individual belief, hence, a Chinese model of "relation-belief mode" can be derived from this practical relationship. This study argues that the basic feature of a strong religious system, such as Christianity, with apparent characteristics of institutionalization is to accommodate the social relationships between individual believers, as well as between believers of different religions through the institutionalized structure. These religious activities are institutionalized and organized by the church and its systems, functioning as the institutional structure of the practical logic between belief and religion.
