One out of every five teens in the United States suffers from mental illness.1
As fellow educators, we understand it’s our responsibility to care for the whole child. This includes nurturing their social and emotional learning (SEL), which is more important than ever. That’s why Gale continues to partner with SEL experts, like the Cameron K. Gallagher (CKG) Foundation. The organization cultivates awareness, education, empathy, and understanding toward the depression and anxiety many kids experience.
Inspired by our collaboration, Gale’s certified teachers have curated Cameron’s Camp for Wellness, Cameron’s Collection, and custom SEL collections. Each features approximately 50 age-appropriate, evidence-based Gale eBooks to help students of all ages better understand mental health issues and enhance their social and emotional learning. For example, elementary schoolers can learn how to manage emotions and improve teamwork, while high schoolers can discover strategies for handling stress and anxiety in healthy ways.
The titles in all SEL collections span a wide range of topics and health issues, including ADD, ADHD, alcohol, anorexia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, bulimia, caregiving, cutting, depression, divorce, eating disorders, homelessness, obsessive-compulsive disorder, self-injury, stress, substance abuse, and suicide. All support social and emotional learning curriculum and bring empathy education into the classroom—and beyond.
Many books in the collections have chapters that provide educators and parents with suggestions regarding professional help on mental illness and mental health, such as where to go and how to find additional information. While the SEL education eBooks help to facilitate conversations and develop curricular competencies, students also have access to this content from the privacy of their own homes, 24/7.
