Why use Gale Historical Newspapers?

Gale specializes in scanning materials and applying search tools that focus on improving academic research. While many newspapers are accessible in digitized formats elsewhere, they will not have the advanced search tools that help users to discover new research topics and avenues for inquiry. Many of our newspaper archives can also be used in Gale Digital Scholar Lab, adding significant research options for digital humanists.

Many other newspaper archive providers will also require a library to purchase individual access for each user: with Gale, you purchase the archive, and anybody with a login to your library database will have perpetual access to the content.

We publish add-on modules to extend the date ranges of our historical newspaper archives.

These add-ons are available to customers who already own the existing years; any customers who purchase the archive after the add-on is released will get the full range of years.
